Future You May Thank You for This
Spring always brings a sense of renewal—a fresh start, a chance to reset. Lately, I’ve been asking myself a simple question that has made a huge difference in how I navigate my days. It’s not deep, and it’s certainly not a fix for everything, but in the midst of endless to-do lists and daily busyness, it has helped tremendously.
I started asking this question because I was struggling to prioritize. Like most people, I tend to take on too much at once, which often leads to feeling overwhelmed and, ironically, getting less done. So, what’s the question?
👉 “What will future me be most happy with?”
It’s incredibly simple, but the impact has been surprising. Here’s what it looks like in action:
Before leaving the house, I take 10 minutes to tidy up—not because I have to, but because I know future me will appreciate coming home to a clean space.
Even when I don’t have time to fully complete a work task, I remind myself that future me will be grateful I at least started, even if it was just 15 minutes of progress.
At the end of the day, I think about what will actually help me feel rested—reading for a few minutes instead of getting lost in doom scrolling.
It can apply to so many areas of life—short-term (how will I feel by the end of the day?) and long-term (what small choices now will make a difference in five years?).
It’s not about perfection or doing everything right. It’s about small, intentional choices that make life just a little bit easier, a little bit better.
So, what will future you be most happy with today?
